Willoughby South Invitational

8.27.16 ~ Willoughby, Ohio
On August 27, the Lady Cardinals ran at the Willoughby South Invite. The team place fifth overall with two top 25 finishers (Lizzy Gilreath and Maddie Hull). While disappointed in their team rankings the girls managed to have 12 of 17 set a season PR. A total of four girls were able to PR by more than two minutes while three others came close. Overall the girls did well personally, but lacked the group racing they need. Individually Lizzy Gilreath had an exceptional race, being the first girl to race in the 20s. Other amazing runs were executed by Mackenzie, Anna, Alivia, Loryn, Sarah, Emma Obrzut, Marissa, Jaime and Sam who all PRd by over a minute in a span of 11 days. Avery McGeary who was absent for time trials ran a 22:50 securing a spot on varsity while Kristina Gara had her race temporarily put on hold due to a hamstring injury. Mentor Cardinal Classic XC Invitational

Tiffin Cross Country Carnival

9.10.16 ~ Tiffin, Ohio
Lady Cards swept the course of Tiffin gaining a 7th place finish out of 31 teams. Three girls finished in the top 50 individual and 11 out of 18 girls set a new personal record on the busy course. Input from other captain Sam Meyer states,“You (Lizzy), Avery, and Maddie Hull ran like fricken goddesses”. Very generous words considering our faces looked like the opposite. The race helped boost a lot more moral on the team helping us mentally prepare for the future. The girls team is inching closer and closer to times they want with every new meet we run. The Lady Cards are continuing to work on closing the small remaining gap between one another, shown by how the top 8 are under 21:30. All in all the meet went smooth, and go Cardinals. McDonough Invitational – VASJ

9.17.16 ~ East Cleveland, Ohio
This past weekend the team split up and went to two separate events. This weekend was one of those no PRs kind of weekends due to slow and poor race conditions. Varsity traveled to Boardman where the girls took 11th out of 41 teams. Maddie Hull lead the team with a time of 21:07 and placed 53rd overall. While the team was not happy with their times, they were happy with their performances. Two great performances were executed by Sam Meyer and Anna Evans. While most of the girls were one-two minutes off of their times from the previous race at Tiffin, these girls were only about 20 seconds off of their PRs, showing their improvement from the week prior. Another girl that stepped up was Loryn Renick who again, helped score points for the team. At the McDonough Invite, the girls excelled on a wet, slippery, and run down course. Emma Lane ran hard up “the hill” to place 18th overall helping the team seal an 8th place finish out of 9 teams. Other amazing races were ran by Sarah Lane who is moving nicely up the team as her times are dropping. On another note, Lily English who ran solo in the open race finished with a great time considering course conditions. All in all the girls varsity is coming together nicely with the top finishing within 20 seconds of one another, while the jv is working hard to move up into the varsity spots. Spartan Invitational – Varsity Only

Medina XC Festival

10.8.16 ~ Medina, Ohio
This weekend, the team ran at the Medina XC Festival at Medina High school. With both boys and girls varsity teams sitting out this week, both teams still managed to place top 15 overall. With perfect weather and a smooth course, many of our athletes PRd including Marshal Stewart, who ran just under 17 (16:59), Austin Roose, who now has a PR that is 11 minutes faster than his first race (25.37), and Emma Lane who ran almost a minute faster than her previous best and now has a current PR of 20:37. Both teams have been improving every week since the start of the season and continue to do so as the season goes on. Race results can be found on the Medina XC Festival race page.
